Get ready to get reading

The 2024 Summer Reading Challenge: Marvellous Makers is starting this month and you can head to Bradley Stoke Library, or any other local library, to get your youngsters signed up.

The challenge is free to take part in and is suitable for those aged four to 11 years and all entrants receive a free activity bag upon signing up. Children are invited to read any books they like over the summer holidays, and in return they will collect stickers and, perhaps, a medal and a certificate at the end of the challenge. It runs from Saturday 6 July to Saturday 14 September.

A parent whose child took part last year said: “I thought the challenge was brilliant and so did my children. It was a fantastic way to get them excited about reading over the summer. The craft activities were very clever and engaging. My eldest’s reading fluency noticeably increased during the challenge.”

While a child who took part last year said: “I find reading a struggle as I am dyslexic, but this helped me keep going over the summer when off school.”

The Summer Reading Challenge is produced by The Reading Agency and delivered in partnership with local libraries.
