Paralympian makes a super(market) splash

Supermarket chain Aldi has opened a new store at Stoke Gifford on Fox Den Road. The shop was opened by the Paralympic swimmer, gold medallist Stephanie Millward MBE, who was joined at the ribbon-cutting ceremony by pupils from St Michael’s CofE Primary School.

Stephanie gave away complimentary bags of fresh fruit and vegetables to the first 30 customers in the queue, before delivering an assembly for children as part of the supermarket’s Get Set to Eat Fresh initiative. Aldi also offered pupils the opportunity to win a £20 gift voucher to spend at the new store, tasking children with creating a poster to show what healthy eating means.

Store manager AJ Currey said: “It has been a wonderful morning here at the opening of Aldi Fox Den Road. It was lovely to welcome our new customers into the store, and I look forward to meeting more of the community in the coming weeks.”

ParalympicsGB star Stephanie added: “I’ve had a fantastic time opening the new Aldi this morning. It was an honour to officially open the store and welcome customers inside for the first time. Hopefully I’ve also managed to inspire the pupils of St Michael’s CofE Primary School to keep active and try different sports.”
