MP praises hub’s support for families

Claire Hazelgrove, MP for the Filton and Bradley Stoke constituency, recently visited Mamas Bristol’s Hub in Bradley Stoke to meet the team, hear more about their local impact and plans, and to see one of their ‘Stay and Play’ sessions in action.

During her conversations, Claire was able to hear from parents and grandparents about the support and service that Mamas Bristol provides.

Alongside a kitchen and sensory room, the hub also has a Role Play Zone with a supermarket and construction site, a newly renovated Senses Room and a ball pit. Claire was given a tour of each of these rooms alongside sitting down with Kelsey Booy, Mamas Bristol co-director and hub manager, to hear more from her directly.

Established in 2018, Mamas Bristol was created to help families across Bristol and South Gloucestershire reduce costs and save money alongside offer support and help reduce the social isolation that parenting can bring.

Claire said: “Mamas Bristol have created a real haven for families in our community. From fantastic ‘Stay and Play’ sessions at their hub in Bradley Stoke and their community larder to their swaps and freebies network, the hardworking team – including many volunteers – have created a real community.

“The hub has fantastic zones for different activities for little ones – everything from a supermarket to quieter space. Beyond the hub, I’ve also always been so impressed with Mamas’ work across our community, from supporting families to find affordable ways to swap items and clothing to providing vital space for mums to reflect on self-care at this month’s International Women’s Day at Brabazon.”

Kelsey said: “It was a pleasure to meet Claire again and to have her visit the Mamas’ Hub in Bradley Stoke to see our regular work and ‘Stay and Play’ sessions in action, as well as to talk about our impact and future plans.

“We’re grateful to have the support of our MP to help us ensure we can provide the best service to parents in our community and wider area.”
