At the recent AGM for Shopmobility South Glos, Alderman Janet Biggin was re-elected as Chair, David Bell as Vice Chair and Christine Howard as Secretary. Linda Bannister and Steve Major were elected to be responsible for Social Media and Marketing.
The Shopmobility scheme has also announced its opening hours over the Christmas and New Year period, which means they will be closed between 21 December 2024 and 1 January 2025, inclusive.
Shopmobility South Glos is based in Yate Library in Yate Shopping Centre and it provides mobility scooter and wheelchair hire on a daily and longer-term basis to help people with limited mobility to retain their independence and to use the facilities of the centre and to access other services. Shopmobility helps users from all over South Gloucestershire and beyond and works to reduce social isolation.
The opening hours are Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, from 9.30am to 4pm. There is free daily hire with a concessionary bus pass.
The scheme has been operational since 2006 and provides a vital service to its users helping to access the shopping centre and other services, and for social purposes. Project manager Sheridan Crew is on hand to provide the necessary help and support. Long term hire of wheelchairs and mobility scooters is also available.
There are volunteering opportunities available to help to run the organisation, and to put together and deliver its promotion strategy to help the service reach more users. Please contact the scheme on 01454 868718 or 07999 574474, or email shopmobilitysouthglos@yahoo.com to find out more about volunteering.
