Derelict youth centre faces demolition

A derelict former youth centre will be demolished and replaced with either affordable housing or early years education.

South Gloucestershire Council leaders have agreed to spend £100,000 bulldozing Little Stoke Youth Centre and preparing the land for sale.

A report to cabinet said: “Given the dilapidated state, it is not economical for the council to repair the building. Demolishing it would make the site safe and reduce ongoing management costs, as well as enhancing the site’s value and marketability.”

It said the £100,000 costs to bulldoze the wooden building and undertake site surveys would be recovered from the proceeds of a subsequent sale to a developer.

The report said: “There is youth provision in this area at Bradley Stoke Youth Work run by Bradley Stoke Town Council. The demolition of this building would enable the construction of affordable housing or a pre-school or the extension of the existing Little Stoke Primary School’s facilities if this is required.

“The demolition facilitates the development of the site bringing about positive equalities impacts.”
