A new festive campaign from South Gloucestershire Council hopes to encourage people to visit local high streets in Filton this Christmas.
The council is once again supporting the independent traders who make up high streets across the district in the run up to Christmas.
The campaign will highlight everything South Gloucestershire’s high streets have to offer shoppers and families including festive events, a wide selection of local businesses and free parking.
Throughout the festive season the council will be promoting free and low-cost Christmas events taking place in Filton as well as in Chipping Sodbury, Downend, Hanham, Kingswood, Staple Hill, Station Road in Yate and Thornbury.
The campaign also includes a photo competition. To enter, all people need to do is visit their local high street, capture something that represents Christmas spirit and post their chosen photo on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter and use the campaign hashtag #SouthGlosChristmas and the relevant hashtag for where the photo was taken e.g. #ChristmasInFilton or #ChristmasInThornbury.
The competition is open to all ages and abilities. Prizes include a £50 meal-out voucher for the overall winner, as well as vouchers for coffee and cake for the runners up. The competition closes on Monday 12 December 2022. Winners will be announced on Wednesday 21 December.
Full details on how to enter, including a full list of the campaign hashtags, as well as terms and conditions can be found at www.southglos.gov.uk/shopsouthglos. More information can also be found via the council’s social media channels.
Leader of South Gloucestershire Council Councillor Toby Savage said: “Our high streets are the backbone of our local communities providing access to much needed services as well as helping cater for the shopping and leisure needs of local people.
“This year, as households and businesses all struggle with the cost of living, we want our campaign to remind people how important our high streets are in bringing communities together and providing a focal point for many activities.
“I’m so impressed with the array of events taking place across South Gloucestershire and I look forward to sharing Christmas spirit with local people whether its waving at Father Christmas in Thornbury, watching the lights get switched on in Staple Hill or singing carols in Downend.
“I’m also looking forward to judging our Christmas Spirit photo competition. Our high streets always look so magical during the festive season so I’m sure we are going to get some great entries from across the area showcasing Christmas in South Gloucestershire.”
