Prime Minister visits Rolls-Royce

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak recently visited Rolls-Royce in Filton with Conservative Deputy Chairman Jack Lopresti, who is MP for Filton and Bradley Stoke.

Mr Sunak opened the Future Works initiative at Rolls-Royce, an area of the facility which showcases the future of the aerospace sector. Rolls-Royce also demonstrated some exciting, world-leading technologies that they are working on.

Jack Lopresti MP said: “I am very proud to represent an area in a region which is the largest defence and aerospace cluster in Europe. I’m also proud we have the Ministry of Defence’s Defence, Equipment and Support at Abbey Wood, which not only procures and acquires kit and equipment for our armed forces but is also doing a huge amount of heavy lifting which is ensuring that our Ukrainian allies are also getting the vital kit and equipment they need to their front line.

“I was delighted to be able to welcome the Prime Minister who was incredibly impressed with what was happening in the Rolls-Royce plant, and he really enjoyed meeting the young apprentices who are  inspirational.”

Following the visit, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said: “It was brilliant to visit Roll-Royce in Filton with Jack Lopresti MP who has been a tireless champion of the defence and aerospace manufacturing sector both locally and in Westminster. It was great to meet with so many at the facility who have worked so hard to bring new technologies like the new Tempest fighter jet to market, and it was particularly great to see so many young, first class apprentices who are at the beginning of their exciting careers in this innovative sector.

“I know that Jack has been a strong advocate for apprenticeships throughout the defence and  aerospace industry and throughout the rest of our economy and will continue to campaign hard for more investment in the wider Filton and Bradley Stoke area.”
