A young couple from Bradley Stoke are about to embark on a gruelling 26 mile hike through the Brecon Beacons to raise money for, and awareness of, the Alzheimer’s Society.
Elise Williams and her partner Adam will be setting out to tackle the Trek26 one-day event on 13 June, and the charity is very poignant for them following Elise’s grandmother’s recent diagnosis with Alzheimer’s.
As Elise explained: “It is a diagnosis that has left us feeling helpless, other than continuing to provide support and reassurance for her. However we realised we could channel our support into something she’s always loved — walking!”
Originally from Tavistock in Devon, Elise and Adam have moved to Bradley Stoke where they hope to settle long-term. Elise works as a paediatric nurse at the Bristol Children’s Hospital, and Adam is an aircraft fitter in Filton.
“We have always been consistent gym goers and big advocates for being outdoors,” explains Elise. “We have been training most weekends, walking in the Brecons, returning home to Dartmoor and have enjoyed exploring many trails around the Cotswolds.
“We love a challenge and are not expecting the Trek event to be easy, but we’re definitely excited to give it our best shot.”
