Plans for 200 homes and new public park

Developers are planning to build 200 homes on fields near the M32 motorway in Frenchay and a new public park.

The housing estate would be located on farmland off Filton Road, in between the University of the West of England’s Hillside Sports Gardens complex and the Sims Hill community woodland. At least 80 of the new homes would be affordable.

The site was recently allocated in South Gloucestershire Council’s Local Plan. As well as new homes, the development includes new allotments and a community orchard. The southern field in the site would be a public open space.

Martin Leach, managing director of Vistry Strategic Land & Major Projects, said: “We’re really excited to share our proposals for Filton Road,
a development that’s about more than new homes. This is an opportunity to deliver affordable, high-quality housing where people can stay close to their family and friends, while opening up new public open space for the whole community to enjoy.

“We want to create a place that feels like a natural part of the community. We’re especially keen to hear how residents want the new public open space to look and feel.

“This is a real opportunity for the community to shape a space that reflects their aspirations and delivers lasting benefits for years to come.”

Vistry added the homes would be designed to the “highest sustainability standards”, with air source heat pumps and triple glazing. There would be improved connections to schools, sports facilities and public transport. Electric vehicle charging points would be installed as well as secure cycle parking.

The plans and feedback form are available online at www.filtonroad.co.uk. Feedback can also be shared by emailing filtonroad@jbp.co.uk or calling 0800 130 3270. The consultation ends on December 15. After taking into account the feedback, the developer will then apply to South Gloucestershire Council for planning permission. It’s unclear at this stage when construction on the housing estate would begin.
