Three Brooks volunteers make impact on community

The volunteer team at a parkrun in Bradley Stoke has been praised for its impact on the community during the Christmas season.

Three Brooks parkrun, based in the local nature reserve, has been collecting food and clothes for nearby charity Blonde Angel Street, while also organising Christmas cards for the elderly at Stratton House Care Home.

At recent parkruns, runners, spectators and volunteers were invited to write a Christmas card for those who may not necessarily get many anymore to brighten their day. In total, they collected 57 cards for residents and staff.

The core team at Three Brooks parkrun has also been collecting clothing and food for Blonde Angel Street, a charity that aims to help homeless people on Bristol streets. They have been donating essential supplies, from socks and gloves to toiletries and tinned food.

Three Brooks parkrun run director Tegan Ireland is incredibly proud that they give back to the community. She said: “Three Brooks parkrun gives me so much as a volunteer, but to see our community come together to support these initiatives this Christmas genuinely gives me goosebumps.

“It goes far beyond a Saturday morning run. It’s kindness, generosity and people looking out for one another. Three Brooks isn’t just a parkrun, it’s a community, and I’m incredibly proud to be part of it.”

Nicola Phillips, Three Brooks parkrun event director, added: “Three Brooks parkrun has been operating as a community event since our inaugural event. We have been very fortunate to get support from local running clubs, the church and the district scout group.”

This year, thousands of runners across the country took part in a parkrun on Christmas Day. While many attended as part of their festive celebrations, for others the event provided companionship and support during what can be a difficult and lonely time of year.
